Every child is special.
We hear this a lot of times. But do parents and teachers really try to find out the speciality a child.
Every child will have a different way of thinking and behaviour. Their approach towards the world around them differs a lot from each other.
When it comes to psychology and behaviour, people are classified into three types, viz, introverts, extroverts and ambiverts.
Similarly, there are types of learners. Identifying the learning style goes a long way in improving learning methods and most importantly, learning outcomes.
Learners should try to identify their own learning style by observing how effectively they learn using different methods.
There are four types of learners:
1. Visual learners
2. Auditory learners
3. Kinaesthetic learners
4. Reading/writing learners
The most common type of learners are the Visual Learners. These type of learners prefer learning through seeing and observing things.
They understand through diagrams, pictures, etc. These are the kind who likes to take notes and make lists.
Teachers can help these students by making drawings and diagrams and creating presentations. Encourage them to use different colours while taking notes.
2. Auditory learners
The second most common type of learners are the Auditory learners. They learn better when they receive information through sound. They prefer to listen to a lecture than reading the topic or writing notes.
Read aloud to themselves helps with these types of learners. They also learn a lot through discussions and debates.
3. Kinaesthetic learners
Kinaesthetic learn are not very common. They learn through touch and movement and by doing things themselves.
They remember what was done easily than remembering what was said or seen. One of the ways of helping them learn is by making them to act out a scene from a lesson.
4. Reading/writing learners
These types of learners prefer learning through written words. Though there is some similarity with visual learners, they still prefer to take written notes rather than making diagrams.
These types are learners are the easiest for the teacher to interact with. Teachers can help by proving them lots of opportunities for reading and writing essays etc.
Identifying learning styles can help the students to engage better with their learning.
So go on and see what suits you the most which will help you give your best.
Do comment about what is your learning style and how it helps you in learning.
